ABOUT BLANKET FORT RESISTANCE

When I get overwhelmed I build a blanket fort, even though I am an adult. I climb in, breathe, let myself calm down and, most importantly, recenter and prepare for what is ahead.

I believe "the resistance" needs a blanket fort, so to speak. A place to recharge, talk about how to take care of ourselves and each other, and to build our resilience for resistance. We have many amazing outlets informing us about what is going on in the country and the world and what actions we can take. This website is not trying to fit into those markets. Rather, it is a place to find information that will help you become a happier and healthier activist. During its first month, the blog will focus on self-care; why it is necessary and practical tips, with a blog post a day on various aspects of self-care, resilience, and mental healthcare.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Camille Tinnin

is a human rights activist, organizer, and researcher who seeks to build resilient social movements. She has her Master's Degree in Human Rights Studies from Columbia University, where she studied the impact of VAWA on women in NYC. She is also an AmeriCorps Alumnae, and has worked as a teacher, community organizer and volunteer coordinator at nonprofits focused on disaster relief, advocacy, and education. Suffice it to say, she has become an expert on compassion fatigue and burnout through living it. But- she is also a funny (at least in her own opinion) superhero movie loving, Harry Potter enthusiast who has a decent amount in common with fictional Leslie Knope (love of waffles, idealism, comedic timing). She is passionate about helping people involved in social change and social services strengthen their self-care muscles so that they can be happy, healthy, effective and fulfilled.
